Pieta is a series of chairs designed and manufactured by Nysa in Athens. Each chair originates from a single sheet of stainless steel. Through cutting, folding, and controlled deformation, the metal takes shape and becomes a simple geometric seat that requires minimal welding. Pietà is a playful game of contrasts: thin and heavy, cold and sweet, formal and abstract. Each chair takes its name from a letter of the alphabet, emphasizing the ability of the form to be described with a single line.
Each piece is made to order, in small batches, with meticulous attention to precision and the quality of every surface.
Gamma (γ)
Gamma is read in the arm of the armchair.
A continuous sheet of steel rises, bends, and returns, forming a clean curve that meets the hand. The back follows the same logic, and its height aligns with that of the armrest.
Omega (ω)
Literally meaning “big O.”
A single sheet of steel is cut to an outline that reflects the form of the letter. It is then curved, transforming from flat into three-dimensional.
Omicron (ο)
The Omicron stool is a steel seat cut into a perfect circle—an object that feels self-evident, almost archetypal.
Upsilon (υ)
Upsilon opens upward on both sides, like a wing.
The steel sheet is bent to create two symmetrical curves. The chair balances between lightness and support, its form appearing lighter than it truly is.
Pi (π)
The letter Pi is defined by two vertical lines and one horizontal connection.
A rectangular sheet of steel is folded to create a clear, stable frame. The form remains open and legible, with geometry functioning as seat and back in one continuous line.
